hey guys, i got my ranger back and yesterday i was driving it on the highway and when the highway turns to the left, when i turn the truck and steering wheel shakes horridly. It would shake then when I got the wheel straight it would shake for a few seconds then stop. then it would do it all over again when i turn. any ideas i dont even wanna drive the thing its that bad

Probably air in the power steering system. Make sure the fluid level is good. The air will work its way out by itself.

anyone know what it could be? It was sitting parked for almost 2 weeks and it was fine before it was parked now after it was parked it shakes bad

In your sig I see that you've got an 98 4x4 and that the 4x4 doesn't work. Hmmm... Are you still gonna get it checked?

I had a similar problem, maybe not the same, but I took it to a local autobody shop and the balance was off quite a bit, as well as there being mud on the inside of the rim, which would cause some vibration. Mine would shake when braking and turning left. They took off the wheels and cleaned them up and re-balanced, all fine now. Guess I suck at cleaning mud.

I too have a 98 3.0L and my 4x4 also does not work.

That sounds good too. The loss of air pressure could have been the last straw. Fits the parked for a long time scenerio really nicely. And also cheap.

Welcome to owning a ranger. One minute you have a problem, the next, its fixed, and you didnt even do anything lol

cheapest solution I know of is get your wheels balanced, weights fall off sometimes and believe it or not, ive never had a problem with Walmart as far as balancing goes...If that doesnt work, try an alignment...If there is any noise with the vibration (other than shit just shaking around) it could very well be your hubs...blancing solved that problem for me, it would shake at 65mph-70mph not over or under.


edit: didnt read the rest of the thread. Trucks that fix themselves FTW

my 96 4x4 does same thing and it is obvious to me that it is axel related and gear lock related the shudder is to extream to be mud.

Balancing?? ok i just had new tires installed maybe ??
