Ok so I got a 1988 ford ranger 4 cylinder. Yes she old but shes a trooper. Keeps going and going! And i really dont want to give up on her just yet as she is always ready to go go go for me.
So heres the issue.
Keep in mind i am pretty sure i all ready know the solution I just want to make sure.
Shes had sloppy shifting since i got her about 3 years ago. I really didn't mind just meant you had to be special to drive her.
So anyways, after a lot of miles, (from Colorado to Florida) the shifting got worse and worse to the point that it was actually seeming to shift outside of the gear pattern. First time it did that i thought my gear shifter was broke. But it wasnt and went on with shifting. Not long after my first encounter of the dead shifter i noticed i could basically do it anytime i wanted and if it was in a certain sport it would just go out. Now it is seeming to shift into gears but not even close to where they were and it also is getting stuck in gear. What i mean is i have the shifter in nuteral but the truck is still in 3rd.
From my googling and reading and massive research i am seeing that its possible that its a a simple Manual Transmission Shifter ReBuild Kit Fits Ford & Mazda Ranger and a possible shifter stub?
and i can get to these two things from inside the cab without dropping the tranny out?
Like i said I am just wanting to make sure I got this all right before i go buying parts and messing with stuff.
thanks for your time in answering my redundant questions lol!
