Default 5 speed stuck in reverse.

I like to start by saying thank you prior to saying what's wrong better yet what happened. My slave cylinder when out so took to shop to put it in. After my 2 days off work I worked on this slave cylinder on my 88 Ford ranger with 2.9 5 speed manual. Long story of the frustration as it was being put back together the third day...Sunday my beggining day which I called in and on Monday lost my job due to no call no show go figure. Anyhow I tried bleeding my clutch but couldn't get pressure so maybe truck needs to be running. As I tryed to start it in nuetral battery's dead..... Icouldnt find cables and battery charger didn't work I push started it in reverse. It started drove out shop driveway in reverse but couldn't get in nuetral. I shut it off still in reverse. Any help of how to get it back switching gears please help I need to find another job.

Well, to get to out of reverse without the clutch, put slight pressure on your shift knob pushing towards neutral as you are giving gas and then just take your foot off the gas pedal and it should pop unto neutral.

So, did the shop stop working on iy and jut put it back toglether or did they actually "fix" it?

What exactly do you mean about using the clutch to confuse it?

~Like put it in gear with the clutch in?
~Or just have the clutch in at all (supposed to be like this)

Also, I am guessing because it was family working on it, the slave was replaced.

Have you bled it yet?

Yes new slave cylinder didn't have pressurerizing rubber boots in my resivoior at autzone now for replacement. Then hopefully have my clutch. I was thinking of using clutch and motor to hopefully free it. I've read about taking shifter off for the shift rails. Just don't wanna pull tranfer and transmission again. Wanna get home and to work

----------

Yes the clutch has to be in to start it

Ok, so putting the clutch in to start is fine.

If it's still stuck in gear, do what I said, as that is how semi truck drivers actually shift - without syncros

I had the same problem I put a new motor in and I didn't pull the tranny I pulled the engine and that's it...I put a new clutch in and checked the slave, it didn't have any leaks and it was about 2:30 in the morning so I couldn't go to autozone for a new one so I left it there after having everything together the engine started up fine and when I tried putting it in reverse it wouldn't go in...or into any gear...only with the engine off I could put it in....I was gonna have a panic attack if I had to pull the tranny so I swapped the master clutch cylinder and it was perfect....it never had problems after this
