Default Strange roaring noise after hub replacement

I have a 2003 Ranger FX4 172k miles. I replaced the driver side hub two weeks ago, everything went fine. Today. I replaced the passenger side hub. I put everything together, torqued the hub nut to spec, and went for a test drive. I'm getting this roaring from the front end. The best thing I can compare it to is like agressive tread tires. It's not noticable until I reach 45mph, peaks at 50, then decreases and it's barely noticeable at 60MPH. It makes this noise regardless of if I'm driving straight, or taking a corner. Anyone have an ideas what could be wrong?

Sounds like bearings too tight, or not enough grease.

assuming you torqued the axle nut down to spec like you said (like your supposed to) and didnt use an impact on it i would have to say you got a bad hub assembly. what kind is it? does it have a warranty?

I torqued it down to spec, with a torque wrench. I don't recall now what it was. Not sure of the brand off hand, but it does carry a one year warranty. I guess I'll pull it off and return it and get another.

I strongly agree with Patrick here. As long as spec. was obtained on the nut, not impacted on I'd tend to go with the bad hub theory. As for the brand of hub, Timiken. Trust me I know the price is sky high, I bought a pair at the beginning of the year, but think about how much you REALLY depend on the hub no to fail. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I'd rather have a reputable company holding my wheels on at 60 mph than Ching Chong China hub manufacturers.

Does sound like a bad hub, but you might wanna check the fluid level in your front diff. just to be safe. I know my front pinion seal is bad about leaking, and from what I've heard it's a common problem. Whenever my hubs go bad they make noise constantly, not just between certain speeds.
