2000 ford ranger rear axle
I broke the driver side rear axle and put a new axle I bought off eBay...but when I put the new axle in two small gears fell out of the differential and now I'm not able to get them back in where they need to get, any help on how to get them back in would be much appreciated.

Are we talking about the spider gears or the side gears?

Those look like side gears to me, but I've not been inside my differential for a few years.

Pulled the c clip and the pin and bolt that my shop manual said to take out to get the rest of broken axle out, one of the gears shown in the picture came out when I pushed the broken axle out...the other one fell out later and was laying in the button of the differential....I almost got them back in, but the axles keep binding and the gears just fall back out, spent a good 45 minutes trying to get them to stay with no luck. I'll post more pics of the differential in a little bit after my phone charges

You can get them back in all you need to do is put 1 on one open end of the carrier and the other exactly across from it the rotate slowly the axle and they will turn in and line up with the pun hole.

Is it ok of I leave the S-spring out, I realized I forgot to put it back in after I had already put the rear end back together and filled up with axle oil.
