Default Talk to someone who has replaced a clutch.

Hello,

I have a 2006 2.3L 5spd. I am considering doing a clutch replacement myself. I am planning out the work using the service manual. I have accumulated questions along the way that would be too cumbersome and long to write out. A verbal chat would be better so I could ask follow-on questions.

So has anyone out there done a clutch replacement start to finish on a post 2005 model (when the bell housing bolt pattern changed) and if you have, would you mind fielding some questions on the phone?

Thanks,

Don V.

Default Re: Talk to someone who has replaced a clutch.

I have on a 2.3L engine. Mine was a 2003, but yours should be exatly the same if its the single cab. It's way to easy because the tranny is light.

What I did:

First removed shifter from the inside including the shifter repair kit.
Unplugged the Battery terminals
Then Removed the crossmemeber, and the starter
Drive shafte was easy to remove, I did not use any penetrating oil because my 2.3 was an Arizona Vehicle so no rust (But I would recomend spraying bolts with penetrating oil for easy removal)
Next step was unbolting the tranny, have a jack to hold the transmission so that it doesnt fall on you.
Then after I removed the transmission I replaced the rear and front main seals (optional) also the flyweel (Optional) obviously the clutch was replaced, pilot bearing etc. slave cylinder and hydraulic line were replaced too.

Dont worry about unbolting the transmission, it was easy for me and the exaust is not gonna be on the way.

My problem is finding a thread where someone teches how to remove the transmission on a 4.0L SOHC 4x4 to change the cluth. Now thats a b**** to remove.
