Exclamation M50D Reverse Grinding

So since I bought my truck in November my M50D has randomly on occasion ground when entering reverse gear. Since it has gotten warmer I have noticed it getting to be more frequent. I have figured out a way to usually get it not to grind, that way is to move the stick and "hover over" reverse gear for a few seconds with the clutch fully depressed before attempting to enter the gear, but I usually dont have the patience to do that and I forget. I have also noticed that I usually have to stick it into gear twice, so I put it in reverse, take it out then shove it back into reverse a bit harder the second time. I have heard that M50D's have synchronized reverse gears and this can cause them to be a bit finicky. So does this issue require a transmission service or is this just one of the many eccentricities of the M50D? I also have the 4.0 OHV engine if the torque makes a difference

Rev and 5th use the same shifter fork, so if it was bent you should have trouble with 5th also. It could be the syncro. Theres a nut that holds things togather on the end of the cluster where rev and 5th are, it could be working loose.

5th works fine, it goes into gear easier (and quicker) if I go into 1st then reverse. If I dont, it feels like I have to wait for reverse to stop spinning to shift into it. Do you think I need to drop the transmission?

My first ranger was a 96 and it used to do that. I just waited a second for the gears to stop spinning and then it shifts just fine. That truck went 240,000 miles without any tranny service other than a clutch. So it's probably just an M5OD thing.

Mine does the same thing... I push the Clutch in and run it through first and second before going into reverse
