Unhappy replaced valvebody gasket and servo blew out???

I installed a new bonded one piece gasket on my 4r44e. The old one was blown in three different places. I was so happy to find it was bad and thought all my troubles would be solved. I know that they sell upgraded valve bodies that have the shift kits installed but i figured if the stock one lasted this long then i should be ok for awhile.

As soon as i put it together i started loosing fluid. When i got underneath it there was fluid every where. I could not tell where it was coming from and didnt seem to leak while i was looking at it only when i drove it down the road.

I took it to a local shop and they told me that the overdrive servo cover has cracked. That there must have been too much line pressure. I can get a new cover and replace it but do you guys think that maybe the old one was shot because the problem i was having was it not wanting to go into overdrive. Or would it be a wasie of time and just crack the cover again?

Servos don't last forever. They aren't exactly "high fail" parts, but they still die with age. If the pressure was that high, I'd think the band would be more likely to go than the servo. Perhaps your band is actually loose and the servo had to fire a lot harder to lock it?

If you've got it at a shop, you can have them test that. It's not too hard to test line pressure on this unit.

Very good point. I was thinking my bands were loose anyways. Good of time as any to adjust them. I sure hope that is what it is. I dont see how I could have screwed up the valve body.
