Thumbs down 95 Ranger Driveshaft bearing blew out this morining

on my way to school i was going along at about 60 mph and all of the sudden i hear a loud thump and everything starting smoking. i stopped and check everything out and apparently when i went mudding the other day a big ass clump of mud got up in the 2 piece drive line bearing. and it didnt allow the bearing to turn and it fried the rubber. (which is a quite notice able smell) i got a new one this morning but how hard are the to install. and how do i get it home!!!! i cant afford a tow truck right now

To get home, remove the rear driveshaft, then engage 4x4 high, and drive it home using the front wheels only.

It's time for you to switch to a one-piece driveshaft ... http://imgur.com/a/BL7mz

Signature says 2 wheel drive.

Your only option is to push it home.

If your drive train is sitting on the frame and not in the mounts you have bigger problems than a carrier bearing

Got photos?

Do you mean your driveshaft (similar to mine, shown here) is sitting on the cross-member below it (NOTE: not the frame), because the (black) circular rubber bearing holder has failed and is no longer holding the center bearing (pictured here, inside the inverted U-shaped bearing)?

Here's how: http://imgur.com/a/J3TmN <== CLICK

Make SURE you chock wheels & set parking brake.
To remove your D/S: remove 4 bolts at each end, plus 2 bolts in center bearing support. No need to jack it up.

After you take the driveshaft to your workbench, then the fun begins. From there, it's a royal PITA to disassemble the driveshaft halves, and then remove that bearing with a puller. Then install new bearing & reassemble. It'll take about 3 hrs.

OTOH, it's much easier to just switch to a one-piece D/S ... http://imgur.com/a/BL7mz <== CLICK
A used whole D/S (eg, via Craigslist) costs about same (or less) than just that little bearing. You'd need to find a donor truck with same cab style as yours (eg, regular vs. extended). A one-piece D/S will avoid this problem in future, too. That's why Ford switched ALL 1998+ Rangers to 1-piece.
Your choice.
