Default 20010Ranger Manual Transmission Instal

I am installing a manual granny and I can't get it by the clutch plate spines. It about 1.5 inches out from the motor. I don't want to use the screws holes to pull it in. I did this in the past and cracked the aluminum trans case.

What's the best way to allow the clutch to move freely with n the confines of the clutch carriage.
