Default 2011 Ford Ranger 5 speed Issue

Hello everyone,

I purchased my 2011 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 5 speed with 38k miles on it about a month ago and it's been having this weird issue.

It makes this whistle belt squealing type of sound when I'm at idle in neutral or driving around in a gear. As soon as I push in on the clutch it goes away and I can actually just push the stick shift up near a gear and it will stop. It's faint but I notice it. It's loudest in 3rd gear going 45.

I've heard gear rollover but that usually goes away when you are in a gear, correct?

I'm not sure if I should be worried about it or not. I changed the transmission fluid and the transfer case, both looked fine.

After changing the fluid it actually shifts into gear really smoothly.

Let me know if you guys have had any similar issues. I'm under the powertrain warranty but not sure if I should take it to a Ford Dealership or a transmission shop.

If it's under warranty....then take it to ford to at least have it documented.

Warranty = Fords problem. Unauthorized people working on the issue will most likely invalidate said warranty.

Well it's going to get torn into on Monday at a Ford Dealership. i will report back what it was...

Okay good thing. And x2 taking it to another tech may make the warranty invalid.

I just got it back home! Man it feels good to have my new to me truck back.

The dealership ended up replacing everything under warranty due to the excessive noise.

The following was replaced in order to cure the noise:
Clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, overhaul of manual transmission input bearing - due to excessive play, counter shaft bearings, and resurfaced flywheel.

Kudos to Ford customer service on this repair. I've owned 5 Ford Rangers and never had any serious issues with them and glad they stood behind their product the one time I did. So relieved to have my truck back. The dealership was actually probably one of the best I've ever been to and very reasonable on their pricing (even though it was covered).
