Woody, you never replied to that PM where I explained about the little surprise I found when doing my rear brakes. The part about where the hole on the backing plate on the left side for the parking brake cable being oversized due to the MC parking brake cable flopping around for 100K miles and letting water in to rust and waste the brake parts. Then there was the two part fix I cooked up, the SS washer and fabing a parking brake cable.

Has this happened to you?
I must have missed the PM. I have changed the ebrake cables on 4 Rangers(my 04 needs them). Never had any issue with the hole or any part of the system. Went right on and all 4 trucks worked fine.

It's useful to have some help when it comes to connecting the rear cable s to the main cable.

That hole in the backing plate on the LH side wore oversized from the MC parking brake cable. This allowed water ingress, which generated excess wear. It looked like hell in there. In the course of all the brake drag problems (turned out to be the Raybestos shoes and their material) the axle seal decided to leak too.

What I did to cure all this BS was go out and buy a few different SS washers. Pick the one that was most suited for the situation, oversize the hole and slide it over the end of the pkg brake cable thaqt engages with the backing plate. This not only cured the oversized hole problem, but lessened the slop in the three tabs that engage/lock the cable in. Then, I use some round rod (RR) and fabbed a bracket to better support the LH cable from flopping around and again screwing up the cable to brake backing plate engagement. The RR passes through the gap around the U-bolt/springs and has a formed end to keep it from falling out. The other end has a formed end that grabs and secures the pkg brake cable maybe 4" from the backing plate. Much less movement. The general idea with this new RR bracket is to support the LH cable in a similar fashion as the RH cable is down by the backing plate. Ford seemed to think that by wrapping the cable around the LH spring , that this was good enough. Maybe for perfect streets; those don't exist where I live.

*Something to look at when inspect the LH rear brakes and pondering new parts.

Oh for the love of God this so very true. I did mine myself, it was a slight battle.

*Suggestion for DIY: pull not just the new cable as much as possible to release the parking brake, but do this for the right side too. Then pull the long cable next to the rocker and headed to the other cable that goes to the park brake pedal assy to fully disengage the assembly. Pull everything good and hard. Generate as much slack as possible, it's the DIY key and it will really help a lot.

So before this thread went to the birds here recently it was suggested to go with a combo of brands that cowboy had used so I ordered those and showed up today so anxious even tho I came down with a cold and not feeling so hot I really was hoping this would fix the adjuster arm issue....
Yea wishful thinking, while the passenger side went together and the arm is in place like it should the driver side is the same as always, play in the cable and wont pull it tight enough.

I checked the parking brake cable, pulled on it while shoes were off and both side will slide normal.
Just to really pissed me to the point im gonna seriously loose it I get the driver side together and then the fairly new wheel cylinder decides to leak!! WTF

Wasn't going after you just stating or meant to state I used your combo of parts and it didn't work. NOt mad at you just super pissed at the whole ordeal, no reason why it shouldn't be working.
Now I get to tear that side completely apart again to get the cylinder off.

Again sorry just angry and didn't post what I meant to, top it off im sick and trying to work on this pos
