Help diagnosing/fixing leak
Hello, Brendan here- new to the forums.
I recently purchased an '88 Rebel edition ranger (2.3 4 cyl, 5 speed manual), and she's pretty solid overall but I am finding she needs more work than I had imagined. I am very new to the D.I.Y. so please excuse my lack of familiarity...
The most urgent thing actually happened recently. I had seen no leaks of any kind up until a couple days ago when I was practicing uphill starts near my house (I am new to manual). When I parked I went inside for a bit and came back out to a RIVER of iridescent fluid in the driveway (which was wet). I drove it around a bit and didn't feel much difference. The next day I took it for a spin and the only thing I could maybe feel was a slight roughness shifting gears, and some sluggishness in 1st. I also noticed some spots along the road of iridescent fluid, presumably from the day before. It is not leaking nearly as much now. The puddle it leaves is a bit behind the engine block and there is no fluid visible on or around the engine. So, my (uneducated) guess is transmission lubricant, possibly from the oil seal at the front of the driveshaft? Any help in locating and repairing this leak would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Bren
