Default transmission installation

We have a 87 ranger with 2.9 v6 and auto trans and we are going back up with the tranny and would like to know if thy are any tips on how to line up the torque converter studs to the flywheel holes? we are chevy guys and new to these fords. tanks.

Do it the same way you would your Chevy. Have one of the torque converter holes in the starter hole opening when you put the transmission up there. Then use a ratchet and socket on the crank bolt to rotate the flywheel till you see/feel another hole.

Thanks, i got it all lined up today but when i tightened all the bell housing bolts there was still a gap on the dowel pins so i don't think the torque converter engaged all the way .

Do you have the bell housing bolts tightened up enough? If there is gaps in the dowel pins, that would leave me to believe not.
