Had the truck for around 8 months now and its never done this till about month or so ago....my concern to is kinda comes after I changed the trans fluid and filter. My driveway is sloped and someone said maybe the fluid drains out of converter but why start now and not before? PLus it does rarely not all the time maybe 4 times now but when I put it in gear and start backing down then I get to flat ground it just goes out of gear and I sit there for a minute and shift it a few times and it finally goes back and that's the end of it.

Fluid is fine, checked it several times. So other thoughts?

When you check the fluid, the engine is fully warmed up and running, right?

Do you know service history on the trans. If the fluid was burnt then sometimes changing it can cause it to slip.

No I don't know anything about the truck prior to me. The fluid was dark all I can tell ya

This is a very common issue with this model transmission. Fluid level was my first thought, but you got that covered. Correct filter for application? Next would be filter quality (some REALLY bad made in China are giving problems) filter seals leaking, clutch pack ware, pressure reg valve sticking. Also the VB gaskets. I usually ck for bad gaskets by driving vehicle to see if it will hold back in manual low. If it doesn't most times gasket has failed. I would try adding about 8-10 ounces more fluid and see if it changes things. Trans can tolerate a small amount over full.

Ugh..well the filter came from O'reilys cant think of brand right off hand.
Was my first time do one so hope I got it together ok and I never want to do it again! What a ordeal and the mess omg

Did you make sure to put the o rings onto the filter?

Could have been a Wix filter, I picked one up at O'Ricers.

Thought: there is a filter difference on the 5R55E depending on if the vehicle is a 4X or a 2X (pan depths). I'm not certain that using one designed for a 2X on a 4X would cause the issue, there isn't that much difference in fluid quantity and pan depth, but something to think about.

Yes got the o rings in. In the month and a half I would say when I did this its only acted up 4 times now and they seem to be when I first drive it for the day so when cold and its been couple weeks between times its happened.

Ok so getting a little more concerned now, seems to be getting more frequent. About 3 days ago it did it and then again this morning. This time today I noticed something hadn't before or maybe it was just today but when I was at the bottom of driveway and it was just revving I felt the trans wanting to grip truck would try to move but not enough grip then like always before it engaged fully....

NO light. Just explained what its been doing and he suggested this, a $75 part. Getting annoying, did it yesterday morning. Thing is only does it once I get to level ground on my driveway
