Default Drivetrain "chirping/squeaking"

I just noticed a squeaking or chirping sound coming from the rear of my truck, me and my dad did some testing. When going slow the chirping was slow, but as we accelerated it got faster. But when we pushed the clutch in, the noise stopped.

I just got done with a rear end rebuild, rewelded the exhaust, new gas tank straps, new leaf spring shackles, new brake lines, new fuel sending unit, fuel filter, and I also coated the chassis with this stuff called chassis saver from NAPA. I coated the U-joint with it and it got on a couple of the bushings, leaf spring ones, exhaust ones, and the sway bar bushings. Messy stuff and it was applied with a brush so it got the bushings a little.

I would check the U joints first.

I also would look at the u-joint, because the throw out bearing makes noises in neutral with the clutch out and stops when you push the clutch in because you are taking the load off of it.

Is there any way to test the U-joint or do you just have to replace it?

Go under the truck and try to shake and turn the driveshaft back and forth look for movement or slack in the u-joint itself. If there is any it's bad.

So I went under the truck and there is no play in the joints.

A friend of mine said it might be the transmission seal where the drive shaft goes into the tranny. Could this be it?

I reread your first post, I missed that you said the noise stops when you push the clutch in, so if the noise is only while in motion I would look at the output bearing on the transmission, if it does it standing still then I would consider the input shaft but that noise would would come from in front of the shifter.

I've read about the output bearing but no one seems to mention any squeaking problems. Next time I'm out there I'll get under the car and try to move the driveshaft up and down and left and right to see if it moves within the tranny. Thats how you test it right?

So here's a list of the symptoms:

- Makes a chirp chirp chirp or squeak squeak squeak sound and gets faster the faster you go.

- Sounds like its coming from the space between the back of the door and the front of the back tire.

- Seems to stop when you push the clutch in even when you keep the revs up after you press it in. Or if you rev it up while stopped.

- Makes no sound stopped.

What does this sound like to you guys? I'll take as many opinions as I can get.

Even though you didn't feel any play I suspect that it's either the U-joint, bearing usually make a grinding sound when they are shot.

If it is the U-joint why does the noise stop when I push the clutch in?

I'd say that narrows it down to the transmission or clutch.
