Exclamation loud clunk in rear

last night when i was backing out of my driveway, there was 2 loud clunks from the rear when i got on the brakes. put it in drive, hit the brakes and nothing. put it back in reverse, hit the brakes and the same loud clunks came from the rear. so i took off the rear tires today and everything in the drums checked out ok. went for a drive and didnt hear the clunks. just doesnt make sense for it to all of a sudden just go away. any ideas of what it could be?

Just to verify.... The clunck was from the brakes not the tranny?

Grease the slip yoke on the drive shaft.

yes im almost positive, b/c it didnt make the clunk unless i was on the brakes. and it sounded like it was a little further back from the tranny

Grease the slip yoke then. White lithium grease and old clothes. Black boot just behind the tranny.

To go along with this.
You will have to split the bindings on the boot to gain access to the yoke. Grease liberally. To rebind the boot you will need to zip tie it back in place. Make sure you perfectly offset the heads of the ties at 180* from each other (one top, one bottom) to rebalance the ds.
