Default Think My Slave Is Bad. Might Be Something Else

OK i know there are prolly a dozen threads open on slave cylinders but i couldnt find one that would help me pin point my problem. I have a 99 3.0 4x4 5 speed manual. When i start the truck and begin to drive i have a full clutch, however once i get going my clutch pedal becomes loose near the top and eventually i only have resistance from half my pedal. Someone told me to pump it up and see if that helps. And they said if that does than it must be my slave. So my question is, if its my slave can what else should i replace while im in there, i understand this requires a trans drop, so if im already dropping the trans and exposing the clutch, flywheel, and so on should i replace it all. What do you recommend replacing and give me an estimate on the cost of parts alone. Thanks guys, any help is much appreciated.

Any time you have to drop the transmission, you should replace the entire clutch...slave cylinder (which comes with the throw out bearing), clutch plate, pressure plate, pilot bearing. That's my phiosophy anyway.

You can replace the master without dropping the transmission, so that one isn't as necessary to do at the same time, unless it's what actually causing the problem.

You can test that by disconnecting the hydraulic line at the slave, then crawl under the dash and try to press the clutch pedal with your hand. If the rod moves more than 1/8" or so, the problem is likely in your master cylinder, and you've saved yourself a ton of work for now.
