Rusted out diff cover?
Ok I noticed my rear diff started leaking but as I took a closer look there's a wet spot in the middle of the diff cover...is it rusted through? I've never herd this happening before

Spray it with break cleaner and check it again a day or two later to see where it's coming from. It's most likely leaking I haven't heard of anything that thick rusting through

They'll rust through, it's happened a few times to some of my friends

Re: Rusted out diff cover?
Mine had noticeable rust on it after 3 winters, replaced it last year with a new one.

Re: Rusted out diff cover?
Yes, it happens, they rust through. Easy fix. Just take it slow getting the bolts off. Don't need to be snapping one of them.

Got a junkyard diff cover, decided to paint it and the rear end with some rattle cans I had laying around, do you think it looks good?

Re: Rusted out diff cover?
You should really use a torque wrench. Tighten them to 22lb to 25lb.

how much was the cover?
the reason I ask, when i needed to replace my gasket, the auto part store only wanted like $10 more dollars for a gasket and diff cover vs just gasket

25 bucks, I think new chrome ones on eBay are like 40, so I was guessing auto part stir would want 40ish for one, but this one is solid had like no rust at all
