Default clutch play problem

hey i know this has probably been brought up a billion times but i have searched and cant quit find what im looking for.. i have a 99 ranger 4.0 5 speed and my clutch is starting to get play in it ever once in a while, some times 3/4 play some times 1/2 the clutch is gone. still works for now but i know that wont last for long. i hear its the master cylinder, so if im right how hard would it be to replace myself and what years can i snag one from?

thank you very much

More likely the slave cylinder, and you don't want to use junk yard parts on that. Just buy new, they don't cost that much. As far as work, it'll only take a couple hours if you have any idea what you are doing. All day with questionable results if you don't.

If it is set up like my 2.5L, the slave cylinder is directly behind the clutch, you have to drop the tranny or pull the engine to get at it.

The slave, you have to drop the tranny, the master, you don't.
