Default 302/T5 swap

Hey,

I am doing some homework about swapping a 302 into a ranger and it seems like something that I could easily do. I want to use a mid to late 90's 2wd ranger and use the drivetrain out of a 86-95 mustang. One thing that I cant find much info about is if you can use a T5 for the tranny though. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Kenny

I'm in the same boat as you. The only info i've gotten is using a 5 speed from an F150.

I'm reasonably sure a new hole would have to be cut for the shifter versus the factory floor location. However I'm still unclear on that.

For simplicity you could put in an 85 mustang motor. It was first year of roller cam and last year for a 4 barrel carb. That is my angle i'm thinking on. Drop in a wicked cam and gt-40 heads from a v8 exploder a good aftermarket intake and carb you'd have one mean 302.

I think it can be done, I was just curious if the t5 would fit without having to modify the tranny hump except for cutting a new hole for the shifter. I was thinking that it would be sweet to have a ranger with a mustang powerplant. Also the front seats from a 86-93 mustang bolt right into the ranger, all holes line up perfectly.

Hmmm...I did not know that mustang seats would bolt up. I have exploder seats in mine right now. The guy I got it from hated the bench and swapped in the exploder seats.

I don't think you would have to modify the trans tunnel seeing as how these trucks were available with 4.0/5 speeds. I know that the trans is different for the 4.0 vs my 2.3. Cause if I couldn't "convince" my wife into a 5.0 i would definately swap in a 4.0 for a power gain. Crappy part is I would have to get the 5 speed from behind the 4.0. In a right frame of mind I would be better off selling mine and buying the previously mentioned setup.
