Default Axle swap on 97 ranger

Hi guys. I have a 97 2.3L 4x2 and have been doing a lot of searching on putting a limited slip in it. From what I have found I would be needing a axle with the code f6. This is the same gearing as what I have now (3.73). So my question is there any differances in the lug pattern between years.

Thanks

Cool thats what I thought but couldn't find any info on it. Hopefully get to go play in the junkyard tomorrow after work and see if I can find one.

just find a expo rear end. look for the axle tag it will say 8.8 3.73 ls or something along those lines. it wont bolt right up but if u have a welder u can do it. its also a stronger axle alot of people do this swap i havnt.. yet lol

Reading this thread....does this mean that my new 2010 Ranger 2.3L, 2X4 doesn't have a limited slip rear end? It has the 4.10 gearing. Is it possible to swap the axle from my 1990, which has posi both front and back (4X4)???? Truck ordered but not delivered yet. Dave

Here's a link that might help identify what axle you have in it. http://www.fordrangerforum.com/drive...xle-codes.html

Not sure about the swap from a 90 to 2010. Wish I could help you out more. Hopefully someone else can chime in and help

Limited slip diffs are barely better than an open differential. As they wear, they lose their limited slip action until they become an open diff. I would not bother with an axle swap. I would install an actual locking differential in your housing. With a limited slip, if one wheel is on ice and the other is getting traction, you can barely move, if at all.

Check out the videos on this page for some examples.

If I went with a locking differential would it affect my city driving any? I'm just tired of getting stuck on pretty flat ground and only thing stopping it is small tree root. Usually it only happens when I go to my campsite and its just me and the dog.
