Exclamation Help with clutch

Just bought a '95 ranger and it would grind a little going into 3rd and 4th. Was told it was the synchronizes for those two gears? Anyways after about a week all of a sudden it became very difficult to go into first and second gear. Like extremely hard. We checked fluid in master and it was empty. Filled it up and still no change. My starter needs replacing so we have been roll starting it but can't now because when you have it in neutral and have the clutch pressed and put it into gear to pop the clutch its in gear with it pressed down like its not letting go when pressed? When truck is off its easy to go into gear but not when running. I've read it could be air in the line so I tried bench bleeding but don't know if I got all the air out. I didn't know if since its still in gear with clutch pressed if that would make it easier to pin point the problem or not? Any help would be great!!!!! THANKS!!!

If the master was empty, there is only one way to fix that. Remove the master, hold the lower end upward, fill the reservoir, then have a helper bleed the slave.

Let us know how it goes. I'm looking at a '96 for a DD, beater that is, with the same problem. It does sound like air in the system.

It's raining right this sec so I'm waiting on it too stop. There was a bolt loose on transmission a little behind where the tubing goes into the transmission and i could see fluid leaking so i tightened it. When rain stops I'll try to get all the air out of line.

Sounds like you have a bad slave cylinder, but it makes sense to bleed the system to see if that will fix it. It really should be "bench bled". You can try to bleed it in the truck, but it isn't always successful.
Here's a good video on bench bleeding..

This is the bolt that was loose behind the tubing where it enters the transmission.

If it has a leak it is not solved.
