Hi, I own a 98 regular cab 4x4 with the 3.0L and 4 speed tranny. Yesterday I changed out my transmission filter and gasket. My repair manual calls for 3qts of Merc V transmission fluid to be added after a filter change which I added. Afterwards I drove about five miles and checked the fluid level and there was no fluid on the dipstick so so I added 1/2 a qt more. I then drove about 16 miles when I started having problems. I first noticed something wrong while driving slowly through my neighborhood when the a/c started putting out warm air. The transmission must have started to slip because I started moving very slow even though I was giving the engine gas. I also noticed that the engine started to run progressively slower no matter how much gas I gave it. I then turned the ac off and tried to roll down the windows and found that they weren't working even though the truck was still running. The radio also started going in and out. I pulled off the road and checked the transmission fluid level with the truck runing and it was still bone dry. I could also smell something burnt coming from the truck. I then turned the truck off and added an extra quart of transmission fluid. When I tried to turn it back on the truck wouldn't start. The battery must have plenty of juice becuase the starter was clicking loud and I was even getting a slight reading on my tach when I turned the ignition. I fear that I may have damaged the transmission and caused it to seize up. I thought that it may have be an electrical issue since the a/c and windows weren't working but I think that those symptons were a result of the engine runing very slow. I've never had any problems with my truck prior to changing out the filter. I'm confident that I installed the filter correctly and I haven't found any leaks. Does anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

please tell me where to check the transmission fluid on 2005 ranger

an automatic will have a dipstick a manual will have a fill and drain plug on the transmission, locate the fill plug and unscrew it. stick your pinky finger into the hole and feel down if you dont feel any fluid. fill it up till you can or it starts to flow out
