I have a 2006 ford ranger 3.0 with a 7.5 rear end and 3.73 gears with an open diff but I've been told the 7.5 rear end sucks or it's not good. I just wanna hear opinions

why put money into something that will never be as strong as a 8.8.. putting a locker in it only makes it weaker and more likely to break because it doesnt have any give when mashing the skinny pedal.
a 8.8 is one of the better axles for the mid sized off road vehicals.

Get an 8.8 with 4.10's l/s (r7)
no one should need anything more then that unless you are doing some major off roading or have a ton of hp.

Simple question: Why do you want a locker? Do you have the need for a locker?

Try to find a donor 03+ FX4 Level II. Those have a 31 spline 8.8 that is a direct swap in and there are write-ups on how to do it. You will need the U-Bolts from the donor truck or track them down through Ford, but that rear already has a Torsen limited slip unit.

I am in the middle of rebuilding a 28 spline 8.8 that I got off CL on the cheap. Regearing to 4.56 and throwing in a Powertrax No-Slip unit. Should be more than enough for what I do in my 2wd and I should be able to hang with my 4x4 friends. It is, however, very time consuming and can get expensive quickly. Locating and purchasing the tools are the hardest part.

Do you plan on lifting? If so, I say get a 8.8 and regear/rebuild and build it to fit your future specifications (Lift, tires, locker, etc.). Saves time in the end but if you are lucky enough to find a good condition 31 spline and want to save even more time that would be the way to go.

Hope I didnt throw too much at you. If you have any questions there is a ton of info on this swap on this forum and on others.
