Cool differential removal problems

can you put 7.5 running gears in an 8.8 housing?
can you have 8.8 running gears in the rear and 7.5 in the front if they both have a 4.10 ratio?

let me re-phrase this. the truck originally had a 7.5 in the rear with a 3.73 ratio. the previous owner swaped the axles off a ranger with a full suspension lift. it now has an 8.8 in the rear with a 4.10 ratio but the front still has a 3.73 ratio. he already swaped the guts out of the front axle and it drives fine in 4high but dosent drive right in 2wd. so now... if i go get an axle with 8.8 running gears and a 3.73 ratio will it fix my 2wd issue or do i have to go back to a 7.5 get rid of the lift? bought the truck for 900 and it looks and runs great just dosnt want to roll.

Being more clear in the first place would have helped you not look like an idiot.

I'm confused....why put higher gears in the back if the truck is lifted? Why not do 4.10 up front with a D35 swap? But the front is gutted? You say "he swapped the guts out of the front".

If it "doesn't drive right in 2wd", there's something deeper going on than just rear axle gearing. In 4high, there'd be transfer case binding. When you shift out of 4, you'll need to back up to un-bind the transfer case in order to shift it.

the dude gave me the original carrier assembly out of the orig axle, he told me it would bolt up but i was skeptical it didnt look like the pinion would mesh. is it possible to change the ring and pinion gears to change the gear ratio instead of the whole carrier assembly?

Yes you can change just gears in housings. If you have a ford 8.8 in the rear. You could have a ranger 8.8 or an explorer 8.8 which I believe require different ring and pinion because ranger is 28 spline axle and explorer is 31 spline. Just swap gears instead of the entire housing unless there's something wrong with the rearend itself.

They're the same fucking ring and pinion, the carrier they bolt to is different.

The forum is for spreading CORRECT information, which you do not do. I don't bad mouth everyone, just the idiots and people who spread bad information. You happen to fit in to both of those categories.

I'm surprised you haven't attempted to make this thread about your POS Mazda like you usually do.
