Default help pulling an axle

My left front axle seal is leaking and ive gotta put a wheel bearing on the left side. Is there enough room to pull the axle out when the hub is off or will i have to pull the spindle down to get enough room? Thanks!!

I assume your talking about the left half shaft up front. Ford factory shop manual for an 04, which should be the same as 03 shows you don't have to remove the spindle to pull the half shaft. It does say to "use the special tools" to remove the half shaft. Special tool look like a big pickle fork and is presumably used to pry the half shaft into the axle as much as possible to facilitate removal. They do recommended replacing the axle nut and a circlip.

You don't have a spindle....the "spindle" could be considered the threaded shaft end itself.

But no, you do not need to remove the bearing/hubs to remove the CV shaft. The upper ball joint and outer rod end should be removed and at least the upper or lower shock mount, and you'll have enough room.

I use a small prybar to pop the E-clips in the differential to unclip the CV from the differential.

Only special tool needed is a socket to fit the CV nut. I use air power but it can be done using a screwdriver in the rotor vanes and a breaker bar.

I know id have room removing the ball joint and tie rod but i have to replace the wheel bearing anyway and i am trying to be lazy and not bust ball joints and crap. Im just wondering if id have enough room when i take the hub off. I know the proper way would be to take it off at the joints but im trying to hack it and get it done quick haha
