Default not quite sure if this is exactly drivetrain but

im debating on whether to change my wheel bearings or not. my truck is 9 years old and has almost 181000 miles on it. i jacked her up to check and the wheels are tight but when i spin em theres a quiet but consant "shhhhh" so does that mean they need replacing or are they still good?

the "shhhhhh" you hear is likely pads against the rotor, which is totally normal.

if those bearings have never been replaced, I'm REALLY shocked. They should be repacked(at minimum) every rotor change. And totally replaced every other IMO.

ok, ill check out the rotors...is it a bad thing if its coming from the pads against the rotors? idk if the bearings have had any work done to em, i got the truck about 3000 miles ago and before that it was fleet maintained

fleet maintained = good maintainence, somewhat hard life. Check 'em out....they're probably way good to go. You sorta left that fleet part out. You made it sound like it's got 181k and nothings been done to it bearing wise. Can't read ya mind! lol.

haha, yea my bad about that. it was fleet maintained (by a contracting company) until it overheated. a mechanic got two brand new heads and the block was good to go, but the company didnt want it back so he sold it for cheap :]

Default Re: A thump in the drive train ?

The problem I'm having is the following when I stop I get a thump from underneth so I changed the transferr case not the problem, I checked the uni joints and no play at all I had the rear checked and the trans no problems...and when you take off I get the thump again like if the drive train spins before it engages any Ideas what this might be....

hmm could it be something with the PCM? check wheel bearings maybe. do you know if its coming from a certain side or the front/back?
