Default Used ARB 8.8 setup opinions

I found a used arb air locker set up for 300. compressor, differential, switches and lines for a ford 8.8 .

I do want it and its about 1/3 the price of new. Just hope I can install it myself. Anyone have one? install one? use one before?

Good luck I have heard good things about these lockers

I mean feel free to let me know if you want to get rid of the locker you can keep the compressor. Lol

If the spline count and application match - $300 is a deal.

Take a good look at where the bulkhead fitting should be (and where it is if you can see the housing that this was removed from)... there's precious-little play in trying to fit the air-bearing's air-line to the bulkhead fitting once that's already been installed and trimmed for another installation.

If you need a new one - ARB USA is very responsive to phone calls and ships quickly (often at a fraction of the local off-road shop counter price)

The installation is pretty straight forward and all you'll need to "Set up" the carrier preload and backlash (pinion won't be changed, since you're reusing your existing gears, right?) Do get a set of shims (like from a carrier install kit) ... measure your existing backlash before taking your existing stuff so that you've got a good target for your new setup (it'll help you to match-up to your existing wear patterns if you keep the backlash the same as it is now). When you drill your housing for the bulhead fitting for the air supply, ensure that you cover your pinion (no need to remove it) and catch/clean all the swarf before spinning anything...

As mentioned, you need only set the preload and backlash, so no need for pattern paint or anything (Preload may be a bit of a trip-point since the pinion will still be installed -- best if you can figure preload as a function of total shim from "just fits", but that'd require hands on with the axle housing this'll be removed from... search a little interweb and I'm sure someone has a cookbook pre-load shim thickness for ya)

Remember that ARB will be using metric tubing sizes and pipe-threads and stuff --- so the 'little parts' may be kind of a hassle (again , ARB USA is top-flight for these tid bits)

The RD82 fits the 28-spline Ranger 8.8 (RD81 for 31 spline), so if you're OK with the application matching -- it'll be a hoot and well worth the few hours it'll take to drill your housing and get it installed.
