I got my strips from superbrightleds.com as well. Installing it is the same as what you said (either wrapping it around the holders or solder it onto it). The amount of LED strips is up to the person installing them and the amount of patience they have. You can put in as much as you want (the more the brighter)!

Can you link me to strips I can use? superbrightleds has the same one in purple strips, would I just strip wires and wrap around bulb holder? how many would I need?
