I sprayed simple green on mine while it was still warm
Let it sit for 10 minutes then sprayed it down. I covered the battery alternator with plastic
Then went through with a towel wiping off everything. You can add armorall to it if you want.

Also when cleaning the engine if u have a aftermarket intake. remove the filter and put a bag over the tube to prevent water going in.

I just used the garden hose.
I have one of those multi setting nozzles. I used the shower setting to rinse it off and the jet setting to blast away mud or dirt.

guys don't use armorall on your engines.... it's petro based and if you used over time it will weaken all of your rubber belts and hoses

anything water based go to your local store and look for water based interior/dash/vinyl cleaners. A lot of the Meguiar's stuff is water based. It will look just as shinny without attracting a ton of dirt on the rubber, just look at the packaging and if it has petroleum or any jelly as one of it's ingredients I would not put that in my engine. This is the stuff I use for all of my and my customers' rubber and trim (not available in stores): http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/d17032.html
you can buy it in a gallon or a 32oz sample, keep in mind if you do get the sample it is not diluted, so you will have to dilute it yourself. Plus it has different levels of shine from high shine to a natural look depending on how much water you dilute it with...
This is was my comparison of the product on tires (in the tire section thread): Quote:
kind of going back to this, I just wanted to show you guys a comparison of a water based tire product vs. a jelly/petroleum based product in reference to attracting dirt and such. I did a test where I used Meguiar's hyperdressing on the front 2 wheels, and I used Meguiar's Engurance gel (which is still jelly based, but it's the only jelly based product from my experience that will not turn your tires brown with years of use). I washed the truck this weekend, and we had some snow fall and with snow came the salt on the road. These pictures have been taken after 3 days of driving.
Front:
Rear:
You can see how much more salt and debris were attracted to the tire by the jelly based product. Also, I did not use any product on the tire treads of the rear wheels just to show comparison if no products were used at all

This is was my comparison of the product on tires (in the tire section thread): | not really a good comparison because the rear tires always collect more dirt and debris than the front from all the salt and grime that the front tires throw up while driving. a better comparison would be a right side, left side comparison with tire shine A on the right and tire shine B on the left.
