| | Engine never been cleaned? its easy.....
Method i use is simple.
Run the engine for a few minutes to warm all the crud up, then spray the whole lot with Autoglym bug and tar remover
Put it in a spray bottle and dilute if you like, but keep it away from your skin as it burns like hell!!
Get an alloy wheel brush or a large paint brush, even a soft bristle broom head if you like and aggravate the whole lot, keep spraying and brushing, just be sure your hands are protected with some rubber gloves.
The dirt, oil, and grime should be melting away at this point and dripping all over your drive way....lol
Next just get your hose and set it to sprinkler mode, and rinse it all away.
Don't use a jet washer because in my experience these things tend to force water into electrics and plugs.
Take the car for a spin to rid of of any other water sitting about, then dry off with a rag.
Next spray the lot with WD40 to coat it all in a nice shiny lube, and to condition all the rubbers and protect the aluminum bits and bobs.
Shut the hood, then start on the outside of the car, as it will have residue of WD40 on the paint and screen, when your done it will love you forever!
This is my Subaru WRX that i sold 3 months ago when i bought my ranger, this was the state of the engine when it was delivered, and the cleaned result if just 30 mins later and a blast round the block to dry it off.

Whoa! - you really need to do a FMIC and a TGV delete for that engine!

Works great with little effort which is always a good thing!
Here in the UK we have Wynns Alloy Wheel cleaner that will work just as good.
Any acid based alloy wheel cleaner will work.
Just make sure you rinse it all off within 5-10 mins and keep it wet so it comes off easy :-)

Would you recommend this for older model trucks as well? cuz it'd be bitchin to have an engine compartment that clean

great job man! looks brand new! the only thing I would add is before you start on your engine, I would hose down your fender/bumper/wiper cowl, etc, anything around the engine and keep it wet. That way if you do get some degreaser on your paint, it won't damage it right away, and simply rinse those same panels as you're rinsing your engine.
