I did this on my sisters Focus last weekend to locate a coolant leak. So it doesn't just look good. It has practical value as well. It wasn't a complete detail of course.
Good post snowball!

I'm gonna try this this weekend. I work at Advance Auto Parts and I get a discount on this stuff. So I'll pick some up and detail the truck this weekend. Awesome tips Snow. I'll make sure to post some before and after pics.

Here are my after pics. The last one shows the comparison to the underside of the hood. All the plastics of my engine used to be brown.

I just did mine today, i got the truck 3 weeks ago and i have been just cleaning the crap out of it. Its nice truck but it was dirty has hell. I could have been there all day , but is good for now, maybe next week i will do it again. It was my first time cleaning an engine bay and i wasnt sure about it.

I always use purple power mixed with spic and span, and spray my engine bay with wd-40

WD-40 will make it look shiny, but it's a greasy shine and it's a magnet for grime.
Then the petrol based residue is corrosive to plastic and rubber. That's 180 degrees from the intent of the write up.
