I went ahead and just waxed it with McGuire’s liquid gold and it turned out better than I expected.

you can try meguiar's cleaner wax as well, it will help remove some of the oxidation

I think I’m just going to put another coat or two of wax on it and quit worrying about it. I’m not going to repaint a factory pant job that is still in decent shape.
Dad has a 69 Dodge swinger with the original paint, maybe someday my Ranger will be like that.

Re: Buff, polish, wax or paint?
I'd use a rotary buffer with compound first and then polish. It's really not that far gone and I made much much worse looking red vehicles look brand new with this method when I detailed the used cars at a ford dealership. Red ALWAYS comes back this way. Other colors don't work quite as well.

Re: Buff, polish, wax or paint?
I got 2 coats of McGuire’s liquid gold on her now and she looks real good from 10 feet away and pretty good close up. I’m going to settle with that for now. I tried some rubbing compound on the roof and my arms almost fell off before I got it all off, that is way more work then I’m willing to do. If she gets looking bad again I might try some of that new stuff that chemically does the same thing as the old buff compound.
After all I got more important things to worry about lie fixing cruise control, if I can’t get cruise to work then I’m going to hate driving the darn thing even more.

Re: Buff, polish, wax or paint?
next time you wax, try meguiar's cleaner wax, it's got a little more bit then the wax you used so it will clean up that paint that much more
