Cleaning the Mustang
I know this is a Ranger forum but I currently don't have my truck and I am driving a Mustang as of now. Anyway, I spent the weekend cleaning the car inside and out. Today I put on some Rain-X on the windshield, All I have to do this weekend is possibly put on a coat of wax.

Re: Cleaning the Mustang
My dad went out on a trip for a while and he could use a truck on the trip and I'm the only one who owns a truck in the family. He asked if he could borrow it and I agreed to it. So until he gets back, I'll be driving a Mustang.

Re: Cleaning the Mustang
Hmm, looks like the mustang 4.0s are drive by wire.
I also find it interesting that the mustang 4.0 produces more hp and torque than our rangers.

The Mustang 4.0 is a DOHC, Ranger 4.0 is SOHC. I like driving both.

The 4.0 mustang is a SOHC as well. If it was DOHC the valve covers would be much wider and make more than 3 more hp and 2 lb/ft of torque than the ranger 4.0.

Though, if it is drive by wire, that is neat.

Well shoot! I don't think at all. When I bought it brand new the Ford dealer told me that it was DOHC, boy was I a sucker. Well the 4.0 has plenty of power for me. To be honest, I'm glad I didn't go with the 4.6 V8, would've eaten way too much gas. Although I would go for a 5.0 in a Mustang, then I wouldn't care about gas mileage. Ha.
The only thing thats BS right now is that my dads Ford Escape has more horsepower than the Mustang.

The 4.0 does have grunt. Its a good little motor. And its a truck engine that ford put in a mustang. That's why its got more torque than hp, where you usually see mustangs with equal power or more HP than torque. You also have to take into fact that the 4.0 was a huge improvement of the old 3.8l v6 (pre 04 i believe) the mustangs used to come with. The 4.0 in your mustang makes 210 hp and 240 lb/ft, the 3.8 came with 140-150 and made like 175-180 lb/ft.
I could outrun a 3.8l mustang in my ranger..

Haha. I like the 4.0 in the Mustang. Not complaining about it at all. I just thought it had more horsepower that 210. My dads Ford Escape with a 3.0L V6 produces 240 Horsepower. Must have been confusing the two or something. The 2010+ Mustangs with a V6 produces almost 300 Horses I believe. I want a 5.0 somewhat badly. I'm back and forth about it.

Yeah, Fords duratec engines are pretty quick (the 3.0, not the Vulcan 3.0). But remember, your dads escape is a 4valve, and was designed many years later than the 4.0. The 4.0 SOHC was designed in the mid 90s and haven't changed since then. Though, your stang has about 20 more lb/ft of torque than the escape. Back then it was fords most powerful V6. The duratecs a are a lot newer and get upgraded every so often.

Haha. I know. Ford is just crazy with their engines. The 4.0 in the Mustang still feels more powerful than the 3.0 in the Escape. Just has to do with the vehicle. I'm not so crazy about Fords 6-speed transmission either, the darn thing keeps shifting all the time in the city. Also, I think I rather have a 4.0 than a 3.7 V6. Even though the 3.7 has 305 horsepower. Ford has way too many engines and models. Whatever makes money, I guess.

The 4.0 has also been proven.
And I do see what you mean with the new 6speeds. They are programmed to get the best MPG possible by shifting around a lot to reduce engine workload and wasted gas. My dads F150 is like this. It is always searching for a gear it can save mpg in. I do like how you can do 70 in the 6 speed at 1,500 rpms. But like I said, with upcoming fuel MPG standards, they are looking for everything they can do.

Re: Cleaning the Mustang
Of course. They are trying to do anything they do to get the best gas mileage possible. I honestly do not see how the 6 speed transmission can get better gas mileage in the city if its constantly changing gears. Like you said it is nice to go at highway speeds at low rpms. Also, I don't know if you've noticed this but when your driving with cruise control on, while going down a grade with that 6 speed it'll shift down into lower gears in order to maintain that speed. First it will shift down and somewhat hold the vehicle back but once the vehicle starts going faster it will shift down another gear but when it shifts down the second time it shifts pretty hard and jolts the whole vehicle. In my opinion - older is better at least in most cases.
