What is the CHEAPEST and most effective way to remove several years of thick brake dust buildup on the back of my Rims?

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
Honestly.. I use like dawn or dish soap and a scrub brush. maybe a tooth brush for smaller areas. works great

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
I found a tire cleaner at one of those dollar stores (sorry I forget which one) That stuff is the most powerfull and cheapest ive ever used!! I used to use it back in the day when I was the "tire man" for my old car wash team. Its called "Street Appeal professional wheel & tire" I actually am trying to figure out where I got it because I need to get some more lol

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
The easiest way to clean really bad buildup is to use Dawn dish soap, a little water and realy fine, either 000 or 0000 steel wool. It won't mark the wheels up and will be THE MOST EFFECTIVE way to clean brake dust buildup.

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
Take the wheel and tire off. then take some simple green and course steel wool (only use the course steel wool on the BACK of the wheel). soak the wheel in the Simple Green and then go to town. If you have a pressure washer, then use that as well. But a pressure washer wont take it all off that easily, youll still have to agitate it with steel wool.
I always take my wheels/tires off every once in a while to clean them front and back and to polish my wheels

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
The trick is to never let it build up that bad. Clean your wheels a couple times a month

Mag wheel acid. Pool supply sells it. Start off with a 10:1 mix. I got my chrome wheels to look brand new!
I'm a professional car detailer and not afraid to use even on a Maybach.
Rinse is the trick! Never, again NEVER rinse top to bottom! Bottom to top and you'll have no streak.
Another good trick is to use shout on tires, motor and wheel well. I wash my entire car with it. Just do not use the one that comes on spray bottle, use aerosol can.
Good luck!

Re: Cleaning Brake Dust Buildup?
I had a can of the eagle one never dull laying around and decided to try it on my stock rims which were in really bad shape due to brake dust buildup. It took roughly 6 hours of work but they came out awesome. I think I shouldn't let them get so bad next time Just thought I would share.

Not always easy + some 04' 4*4 Rangers had back brake production problems, and dirty rims were the norm. I almost had to clean my vehicle once a week to make it look sharp.
