Default Re: Meguiars Clay Bar Kit.

There are actually a few ways to do it. The way I do it is one panel at a time. I start with the hood. After the truck has been washed and dried; I spray a small section (about a 6"x6" area) and clay it. offen wipe off detailer. Using the BACK of your fingers, rub your hand across thr paint. You should be able to feel where u have clayed and where u hav'nt. After the panel is clayed, I then use Meguiars paint cleaner and wipe that off. Then I use meguiars paint polish and then wipe it off. Remember the cleaner and polish are not to be left to cure like wax, they come off immediatley. The seal the whole panel off with some 2.0 and wipe it off after cured. Move on to the next lanel amd repeat all this stuff lol. I like to do it this way so that after claying nothing has a chance to sit on the surface

Will the clay bar get rid of little surface rust spots or do I have to use rubbing compound and then clay bar?

If you keep up on your regular washing routine it really doesn't take any longer to clay the finish than normal waxing. I clay all of our rigs in the springtime once a year, then put a light wax coat on. I try and do a second waxing just before winter hits.
Regular washing with a good freshly laundered mitt, proper soap (meguiars is good), and a clean t-shirt type material to dry with, stay away from anything but 100% cotton. Despite the tradition of using old bathroom towels, you should not use terry cloth unless its really soft material. No automatic drive through car washing unless its a "no touch". Never use the brush at a do it yourself wash. Even the slightest scratching in your paint may not be visible right away, but the nice shine will go away over time as the scratches accumulate. Just remember, paint jobs are expensive!
That's my obsessive/compulsive tips. Then wash your hands 7 times, turn the lights on and off 7 times.............HA!

this is pretty much what I do.

I'd say dont waste your time with the cleaner wax. It works good for certain things in a pinch, and it works if you just want to geter done as fast as you can, but there are way better paint cleaning products out there thatll give you better results if you put in the time.
