Default Headlight Fading

My headlights have done the Ford thing and faded into a nasty yellow. If I open them up is there anyway to clean them or is the plastic that has actually just gone bad? Thanks.

I've seen cleaning kits for plastic headlight lenses. They work the same as rubbing compound and buffing compounds to remove the discolored and scratched surface.

Plastic-x and buffer. or compound and buffer.

I own a detail shop, and I use a mini buffer and any type of wax, not necessarily compound.. if a mini buffer is not accessible just use wax and terrycloth (dish rag or inside of a sock and rub it off.. its not that hard to restore them..
notes: if using a buffer use a spray bottle with water, mist when you see the wax drying, this will help keep it cool and lubricated.. keep you from burning the lens/melting it

One thing I've taken to is to use PLEXUS every time I was the car. I use it on the headlights and taillight. It's really a great product for plastic maintainance. I wont dot he heavy lifting on a badly oxidized unit but it will keep you good stuff from goin bad.I use it on my windshield on my Aprilia and myhelmet facesheilds. It cleans and moisturizes the plastic. Keeps swirl marks to a minimum too.

use toothpaste. i had a 2001 accord and the headlights were almost completely yellow. i just put toothpaste on a rag and scrubbed the hell out of the headlights... took like 20 minutes and if suggest a car wash after cuz i just cleaned it with a wet rag and the next time it rained there was white like all down my bumper haha
