is there a way to revive the luster of the cover of this brake light? i hate to buy a new one as they cost a lot hopiing you could provide some ideas thanks!

buy some headlight restorer from autozone made by turtle wax. 10bucks and it should do the job man.

Wet sand it down to 1000 grit & buff it out to a new finish.
I've done too many of them to count. They'll look like new.

I bought a used 3rd brake light recently so I could have the cargo lights and it was very dull and in bad shape. I used the 3m headlight restore kit on it and it came out like new and yeah I cleaned the dirt out of the holes after the pic was taken

Forsure very easy mod I had a standard brake only in my 2010 and the older 2003 and earlier brake light is a straight exchange and I just wired the cargo ligts to the dome light so I can turn them on with the remote. One of my favorite mods.

Junk yard find on a 2003 an earlier Ranger with a tow package.

Great mod-just make sure you get the wiring harness from the donor vehicle. You'll need it for the sockets for the cargo lights. I hate to promote cutting-up wiring harnesses, but I know everybody-including me-does it.

Im sure the newer trucks are like the 04 -05 trucks you will need to run a power wire. This is not a plug and play mod.

You can run wiring to a dash switch. On the older trucks they come on when you turn the dome light on

Another way is to tap and extend the dome light wire (BK/LB) above the headliner to power the cargos (BK/PK). Certain years and models of Ford pickups have been wired this way from the factory. Obviously, the cargos would come on every time you open a door or move the dimmer wheel to the 'always on' position.

So, is the wire going to the third brake light a straight wire from whatever source, or is there a connector down at the B-Pillar that facilitates removal of the third brake light harness?

Ur 2003 is a direct swap.
