scratches

Ok so I'm tryin to get some scratches out of my truck, some are deep and others not so deep. I bought some rubbing compound but it doesn't seem to work, I'm prolly just doin somethin wrong. Any suggestions?

Are they thru the paint or just into the clear coat ?

Some new products on the market and I tried the swirl and scratch remover and had no luck with that .

Some are thru the clearcost to the paint and some aren't, I know if there thru the paint than its not happenin

There are some better experts here than I as I try to use something like Turtle Wax to see if I can remove scratches etc , but you may need to do some more drastic work . Maybe a wet sand if they are too bad . Not sure how to fix the paint unless you have some scratch touch up paint . I have a friend that is real good but I never had good luck trying that . I'm sure other folks that see this can give you better ideas ..

yes ive done that to a green Taurus. some scratches were deaper than clear coat. i cleaned it and then touched it up with a factory color match paint pen and it looked pretty good. i buffed the whole car and most of the others came out. walmart sells the pens for cheap but i got them off of napa

Yea I bought one of those pens but its darker then my original color but it says its the same. Idk

My suggestion:
First clean off the spot where the scratch is at.
Next tape off the scratch from the rest of the truck.
Using a 2000 grit wet sandpaper on a sanding block, slowly (without pressure) glide the block back and forth on the scratch until you start to see it come up.
Then dry the area.
Next spread some body filler into the scratch and let dry.
After that, use a cleaner such as alcehol or acetone, and rub that stuff into the filler until it starts to disappear.
Grab some touch up paint and use a toothpick as a brush.
Place the paint on the scratch (let the paint guide you).
Don't force it on the truck as the results will look all "goopy" and not smooth.
Let dry.
Then if you want, hit it up with some touch up clear coat and let that dry.

And results: the scratch won't be visible to the eye from a distance yet visible when you see it up close. Still overall will look a whole lot better than before. Hope this helps and good luck.

buff what you can leave the rest.. OEM clear is super thin, do not try to wet sand if you're novice, you will sand thru the clear and make it worse..

I agree with Terry, Orbital buffer and meguiars ultimate compound. Muscle it with the buffer, and wipe it with terry towel or microfiber. You may have to go over it a few times but it will definately help. Once you're done apply a good coat of Meguiars NXT wax with the buffer and new applicator and it should be looking pretty damn good!
