Default Got water on my carpet

Ok guys, I really need some help. So on Saturday I got my car stuck in mud up to the door, when we pulled it out I opened up the door and water must've still been in the door jam because a lot came in and got all over the driver's side carpet. It wasn't just water, it was muddy water. it has been sitting in a shop for 5 days now and I should get it back tomorrow. I went in it today to drive it out but they still had a few things to figure out after I drove it out and the belt fell off because of one of the pulleys. Anyways, the carpet is still wet today and its starting to smell like mildew. When I get it back tomorrow what should I do to prevent any further damage and get rid of the mildew smell. Obviously trying to get it dry is the first step, but should I just take it to a car wash place and get it steam cleaned? Will that take care of it? Please, any help would be great. I'm already stressed out enough to have a new engine put in just for me to send it right back to them after driving a mile.

i would pull the carpet out and let it air dry. that carpet will stay wet for a long long time otherwise and it will stink.

The best thing to do is pull your carpet out, power wash it, and dry it, then reinstall.

Is it hard to pull out the carpet? I'm not extremely good at this stuff, I just have to take out the seats and pull it out?

you don't think shampooing it and steam cleaning it will do the trick?

doubt it. More than likely the water has gotten under the carpet too...and thats where the funk will come from even after you clean it and dry it still in the car... that wont get rid of whats traped under it. Plus you dont want your floor pans to start making the attempt to rust!

Alright, looks like consensus is to pull it all out, clean it with a pressure washer, and let it air dry for a day or two. Sounds good. Man this is gonna be a bitch to clean up.

shouldnt be too bad. I did it alone with my old stang and its got bigger carpet. But you might wanna use some carpet cleaner when you do it...it'll help get rid of the smell. I used some spray on stuff let it sit for a bit then took a brush and cleaned it then hosed it off and left it in the sun to dry.

Cool, I have some of that stuff in a can that I'll use for the spot where I got the muddy water on it. Other than that I am just going to go to a self-service car wash and use their pressure washer, soap, and my own brush to scrub the crap out of it. Luckily its supposed to get up to 80 degrees this weekend.

it's not so much the carpet, but the jute padding under the carpet. it will absorb the water. what we do for flood cars, etc, is pull the carpet. remove all the jute. wash the carpet with lysol and tide detergent. let air dry COMPLETELY! we put fans on it to help dry it. replace the jute with some new. you can get it from yourautotrim.com or a local upholstery shop. put new jute on. scrub the inside of the floor with the same lysol mix you used on the carpet. pull the rubber plugs out of the floor and rinse out. be careful around any electrical connections. after all is dry, reinstall.

x2 on the carpet removal wash and dry.

possibly another option would be to replace the carpet with the rubber or herculiner. wouldnt have to deal with carpet problems again. i havent replaced my carpet, but if i was in your place i would really consider it
