I think I'm going to have the carpets steam cleaned and see if that works. i really don't have the space to take out my carpet. I'm at college right now and don't have anywhere to work on something like that, or store the carpet while its drying.

Stupid idea to have them steam cleaned, that same day it smelled like mildew. I should've listened to you guys. I ended up pulling them out, WAY easier than I thought it would be. I washed them in the dorm's showers and now they are drying in our studying lounge with a bunch of heater fans. My R.A. isn't too happy, but I give her rides when she needs them so she allows it. There was SOOOOO much water and mud underneath these carpets, it was literally a lake under there, I should've just removed them in the first place. Hopefully I'll have them back in within a day or two

i highly recommend replacing the padding. it's nearly impossible to get it dry and it will start stinking again after you get it back in the truck.

I already put the carpet back in. I let it sit under 3 fans and 2 heaters for 24 hours and it seemed like there was no moisture to be found. And this was after I used laundry detergent, lysol, and lysol wiped the metal of the truck. Its been in the truck all day and there is no evidence of the smell at all. I think it worked alright.

this makes me extremely happy to have the vinyl floor covering instead of carpet.. its alot easier to clean i just vaccuum the loose stuff and spray on some cleaner and wipe dry..

Haha, ya, I wish I had that so much. I don't have the money to pay for one right now though, and unless they come in a different color than black I don't know how well it would go with my all-tan interior

Sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet & maybe even under it.
It might help absorb any remaining stinky smell
If it still smells strong, cover the entire carpet with baking soda, brush it in, let it absorb for a couple hrs, vacuum well... it might help a little

Also, invest in some Febreeze or some air-fresheners

Thanks buggman,
I actually did all of that in addition to removing the carpets, washing them with laundry detergent, spraying lysol everywhere, and putting it under heaters and it worked like a charm. Smells better than they did originally.
