Default Simple Green

STL sugested using Simple Green to clean the engine. You just spray it on a cold engine or warm engine, let it soak and rinse it off. Does it take care of grease and DIRT? What should be covered up from getting wet under the hood? It is very little grease, mostly dust and dirt, been driven on a dusty road quite a lot. Should the battery be disconnected? Just want to make sure that nothing gets shorted out with all that water. Could a pressure washer on low pressure, be used to rinse off the Simple Green? Lots of questions!

Thank in advance for your answers

cover the alt. battery the dist box on the back right corner

If u have a cold air intake take filter off and cover the hole. I always spray it when it is warm and let set for 10 minutes or so

super clean.... suggested not to use it on belts because it'll eat them....

Looks like all underhood hoses will be ate too huh?

Simple Green FTW!! But to answer the OP.....if mud is dried on something, like the rubber hoses or plastic hoses, it won't come off unless it's aggitated with your fingers or a brush. That's how I detailed the hell out of my engine bay when the engine was out. Nothing like pulling an all nighter with a drop light, a hose, small flashlight, and a tooth brush accompanied with a hose!

I use seran-wrap to cover alternator/battery/and any main electrical components... then wet engine with water, spray simple green, agitate with a brush (use an old toothbrush vs. using a rag because you can get into more spots with a brush), hose everything down again to rinse. I use a leaf blower to dry the engine, remove seran-wrap and go back and clean the areas that were covered up. I'll spray WATER-BASED dressing on all hoses and plastics (it is important it is water based dressing so it does not damage any rubber hoses or seals). I will then close the hood, start the car and have it run for about 5 min. Turn it off, pop the hood, and clean off any undried dressing... done!

this method at work:
