Default Need help with getting scratches out.

Alright so i have never detailed a car before but my buddy is in criminal justice in high school and goes on ride a longs all the time and the one cool cop has a few scratches on his hood from them practicing arrested people. Well he wants me to come by and get it out for him today. It is a Honda civic two door. I haven't seen the scratches yet but i guess he has a buffer and rubbing compound.

What exactly do i do?

oh and btw he will be sleeping when i get there haha. He is trusting me (i have never met him before) With his brand new car and his hot daughter while he is sleeping (idiot)

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well he has all the materials i guess. I have just never done it. just wipe some rubbing compound on it and buff it out? And repeat a couple times?

the maguiars is liquid, put the compound on the buffer itself, keep adding more as you go over the scratches till they come out, then wipe it off by hand with micrfiber towels. Elbow grease...LOTS OF IT!

I'm probably too late but I just took my scratches out but a little bit more complex than compound and buffing. If you run your nail across the scratch and if your nail catches the scratch and it stops your nail, then it's deep where you would have to put paint over it. If not, what I used is some 3000 grit wet sandpaper and I masked off the scratch with some tape; wet sanded it with a lot of water (keep it wet) then some really good compound like Meguiars or you can use Quixx Scratch repair kit found at Autozone, Walmart etc. and then use that to buff out the wet sandpaper scratches and then put a type of wax or sealant or polisher on it and your good to go. But since it's not your car, might as well do the compound and buff method and tell him that's the best you can do lol. Good luck.
