please elaborate.... what were your expectations of the clay bar? A Clay Bar will NOT remove any defects in your paint. Meaning it will NOT remove scratches and swirls and such. What it WILL do, is remove debris (over spray, fallout, dirt, etc.) that is embedded in your clearcoat that a normal wash will not be able to remove. Another way of looking at it; a clay bar will "smooth" your paint, not by filling anything in, but removing stuff stuck in your paint.

Here is a diagram of your paint after a wash:

Here is a diagram of what a claybar does:

Matt,
I got the meguiars kit also and at first it did seem that I had to put pretty good pressure to get it to work. Then I figured out what worked for me is that I had to knead the bar and flatten again when It looks a little dirty. It worked for me getting tree sap mist off my hood and roof. FX4 is right on the money.

Are new stock trucks allowed to post?
I know it can't be seen but this is after clay baring the hood and roof to remove tree sap mist. Then I put on two coats of wax.

FX4, so basically to get that, all I would have to do is wet sand it really good and put some good compound on it?I have a couple of scratches on my truck I would like to get rid of. I want to really sand down the whole truck but time isn't on my side (work). I bought some 1000 grit wet sand paper and I'm going to get some 2000 grit soon. I also got a random orbital buffer and some Meguiars compound. Am I missing something or am I good to go? I'm going to try this before winter season comes.

to get those results there was no sanding needed.... you really don't need to wetsand unless you have severe orange peel, sever scratching, or touch up paint stuff. If you have your heart set on westanding, try the 2000 first as it will be 100 times easier to remove those scratches from your clear coat. If I were you, I would simply get a dual action polisher and meguiar's ultimate compound. Get a polishing pad, set your DA on a speed 5, and try to remove those defects.

The key in paint correction is to use the least aggressive method available, in order to remove the least amount of clear coat, but still getting the desired results. Clear is not something that is easily put back.... With that said if the DA method above doesn't get you the results you want, put the speed to 5.5, and try a couple passes again. Depending on what dual action polisher you get, you can step up to speed 6 as well, however if you have the porter cable, I would not recommend a speed 6. Again although it may seem like it's a lot of work, for a spot treatment, it's really not. You really need to use the least aggressive method when doing this. IF you still don't get the results you want... you could try wet sanding at that point, but I would practice on some spare body parts to learn how much pressure you can get away with before going through the clear coat. Realize that wet sanding is time consuming, between cleaning, sanding, cleaning, again, using a compound, then a polish, then waxing, you might end up spending a couple hours per panel, while just compounding then polishing might save you half the time. When I do a 2 door coupe (say a 92 and up cobra) for me to fully wet sand the vehicle, buff it out, polish it, and then protect it.... on average I might spend 30-50 hours on the paint work alone, before I get all of the sand marks buffed out, and the rich gloss of the paint back.

Hey thanks Rafal! I'll try the using the compound this weekend and see if I can't get them up. I just bought a ordinary buffer at Autozone I think but I really want to save up my money and get a nice one online like that Meguiars one. But I will look into that more. But thank you for the info and re answering my question even though I only thought I asked once lol.
