Default Antennas in automated car wash

I have a 2010 Ranger with the antenna mounted on right side near the top of fender. It looks vulnerable to damage by the mechanisms used in auto car washes. Signs at the car wash warn to use at your own risk. I was wondering if anyone has had broken antennas as a result of using the auto car washes.

I believe the antenna can be unscrewed but if it's not necessary why do it.
thanks in advance

I've never had an antenna come off or break off in one on any of the vehicles I've taken through a car wash. If your concerned about it you can keep a small crescent wrench in your door pocket and just remove it before you go in

Default Re: Antennas in automated car wash

I haven't taken my Ranger through an automated car wash, but for what it's worth I spent 5 years working at a car wash that had that type of equipment, averaged hundreds of cars per day and we never once broke this type of antenna.

The only antenna that is at risk are those power antennas found in 60's and 70's models that would go up and down when you turned the radio on or off. If they weren't all the way down they would snap, because they were rigid. The style of antennas on Rangers is designed to flex and bend and the wash equipment won't damage it.
