Mechanic got fingerprints on paint after changing brake fluid
Does anyone know what I can use to try and "clean" without damaging my paint where the mechanic got a hand mark on the paint near my door handle? It looks dark, like an oil imprint in my paint of his hand where you would close the door. I need some type of cleaner or polish. Hope it hasn't ruined the paint.

If it's brake fluid then good luck. Brake fluid eats paint. If it's just grease then regular soap and water might do it

Re: Mechanic got fingerprints on paint after changing brake fluid
Im not sure if it is brake fluid or not. It could be oil maybe from my engine compartment. Its a dark brown where it shows his fingerprints. I don't want to use rubbing compound. Maybe just regular Turtle Wax to try and polish it out?

rubbing compound won't hurt anything. Try that first then follow up with a polish then wax. If he was changing brake fluid why would you suspect it being oil. I would lean more towards brake fluid. I would really suspect that it's brake fluid and not oil or grease. If that is the case you might never polish that out

Re: Mechanic got fingerprints on paint after changing brake fluid
Well, mainly the color of the prints, wouldnt brake fluid be a redish color? I know it would make more since it being brake fluid but I would think it would have done even more damage. Then too, I'm just trying to be "hopeful" its not brake fluid. He's a damn good mechanic, but this really upsets me.

no. When brake fluid gets dirty and old it turns brown. If it gets really bad then it's black. Brake fluid isn't red. That's transmission fluid

Assuming your clear coat is good Try brake parts cleaner but don't let it sit. That's usually what I use

Re: Mechanic got fingerprints on paint after changing brake fluid
Ooops, thought it was red. Your right, that's transmission fluid. Shows you how much of a mechanic I am. Well, I'll try maybe something like Turtle wax first, then go to something stronger like rubbing compound. It's not a work truck, I've kept it in mint shape and its been garaged for most of its life that's why I'm so picky about it.
Thanks for your help too BTW Djfllmn

no problem

If it did indeed eat the paint then your only option might be a repaint on that door

Start by washing it with regular (original) dawn dish soap. It cuts through grease well, without harming the paint.
