Funky Smell
This just started a coupla days ago.Whenever I leave my truck locked up for 8 hours or so whanever I open the truck I get floored by the stench of cat urine.I drove to work yesterday with the windows down took about an hour at highway speeds. The smell was gone. When I got off work and opened the doors there was that same odor.I drove home and I poured two cups of diluted bleach down the vents by the wipers.I sprayed Fabreeze in all the vents and also eveywhere in the truck.Today when I went to get in the truck there was no cat urine smell, but when I got to work and locked it up for the 9 hours I came back and when I opened the truck I had to back up because of the cat urine smell.I drive with a co-worker and he smells the same thing.
I thought maybe a cat sprayed down the vents by the wipers I have seen cat paw marks on my hood before. But I thought the bleach would do the trick.I don't want to have air fresheners all over the inside of my truck.Any suggestions?

Re: Funky Smell
cat pissed in your truck, time to take out your carpet and wash it, and scrub the floor. the reason it wreeks so bad is because the stench has time to permeate the air in the cab while its locked up all day. if you leave your windows cracked it wont be as bad.

Re: Funky Smell
If the smell doesnt get stronger with the AC/heat on, then it probably isnt your vents. You could try to put that arm and hammer odor eliminating carpet powder in it before you vacuum your truck...Chances are its in the fabric somewhere...Otherwise it would have washed out by now I bet.

Re: Funky Smell
its your carpet which has gotten wet or is still wet. These trucks are known to leak a bit when it rains either from the weatherstripping along the doors or the 3rd brake light. check those and fix whatever you may see would be the leaking point. I ripped my whole interior out and water tested my truck to see where the leak was and til this day its fine.

Re: Funky Smell
you can also use this stuff if you have no access to an ozone generator:
http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/odor-bomb.html
spray a generous amount, close up your truck and turn you air/heat on and let it circulate through your cab for about 10 min.... I have used this in the past with good results for pet smells or cigarette smells.
you mights also want to find some one with a steamer as cat urine contains ammonia which is not that healthy for you and can cause mold

Re: Funky Smell
Could the cat have peed in the cowl right there below the wipers? Might be getting in by the fresh air vent? Just a thought.

Re: Funky Smell
Just kill all the cats in you neighborhood. Might not make the smell go away, but you'll feel better about it.

I agree, I've pulled carpets out of Rangers that had a serious case of swamp ass! Pull it out, pressure wash it, use a small carpet cleaner, I use the little green machine. Suck up all excess water, then use a heavy duty pet odor remover solution and shampoo it with the heated shampooer. You will have to let it dry for atleast a day, may dry sooner if it is put out in the sun for extended times. When it does dry spray it with meguairs odor neutralizer and replace it. Sometimes that smell may come from a leak in the floor boards, I have seen alot of cars like that in my detailing jobs and mostly comes from the drivers side. Might as well shampoo the seats while they are out as well. Odor bombs may work too but if it is a leak, it will come back. It is possible it isn't a leak, it could just be from getting in and out with wet shoes, spills and if you have floor mats they may be covering the wet spot enough to never let it dry out completely. I own a detailing company and I have come across cars that people practically let their pets live in them, so if you have any questions or anything shoot me a PM and I'll try to help you out.

Re: Funky Smell
well sometimes water in the cab closed up will smell like cat piss. clean the jute and carpet. let it dry in the sun for a couple days. put it back in and you should be good to go.
mine had the same smell a couple days after i got it.. apparently the dealer left the dang window open and it rained inside.

Re: Funky Smell
It's not an allen, it's a torx bit, and I believe it's a T45. Thats for the seat belts. I use a 17mm socket for the seat mounting bolts.

Re: Funky Smell
i have a '96 monte carlo that had a few dozen mice living in the interior pissing everywhere, you could smell the car 20 feet away with the windows down. the way i got rid of the smell was removing the interior, the main thing was the smell had gotten into the metal of the car, i just sealed it in by painting the metal with black rustolium, also did the back of the carpet and the back of the plastic panels. then re-dyed the carpet. now it just smells like paint, lol, but ALOT better than piss.

Re: Funky Smell
You already had a auto detailer respond. I would take it to a specialist i.e. auto detailer look for one with a lot of recommendations. It may cost about $75 - 100 but you not only will get rid of the smell your interior will be detailed out and look great, including seating shampooed. If the cat smell remains, just take it back and complain, make the problem the detailer's problem.
