The factory paint was purple... Is it best to sand it off and repaint it?

Hit it hard with a DA for starters. Then do any bodywork. Follow up with a quality enamel + clearcoat over it. Wet sand. Buff. End of paint dissatisfaction.

*Purple may well attract a type of diversity person to you that you don't want around; carefully consider your color choice.

I don't know, I had a purple and silver Honda Shadow. I never noticed any religious fundies collecting around.

*Religious fundies being the most offensive group that you could be referring too...

I don't think I'd worry about the purp paint on a cycle, but on a car/pickup with a guy driving.........well......good news is, not my problem.
