Hey, guys.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but I have a question. I am wanting to clean my engine bay, but I'm nervous about screwing up some electrical component or something. What parts should I cover up and how should I go about that?

I think that I may go with the Simple Green/F21 method and see what happens, but it probably won't happen until later this week. I'm just too busy right now. I would appreciate input on this. Vehicle specs are in my signature.

Cover the alternator and air box up. (If you're worried about any of your parts, cover them up lol). Don't spray the battery either.

Hey, 94mtx. You're just a helpful guy. Lol Thanks. And I did read the first post there, chief. Just double-checking with you fine folks so I don't screw up my truck.

Great info here! Even though I bought mine new...it needed 3 hours of engine bay cleaning! (all the white residue from the factory and shipping)....now I just maintain it with a monthly hood opening and wiping things down with a few Armor-All wipes. Takes about 20 minutes.

Which part of the air intake do you cover, closest to the engine or the the box near the fender?

hillbilly method..............

2 cans of gunk.and a hose.

get engine hot spray gunk on everything except electrical componets drive to auto wash open hood and cover electrical componets with a plastic bag.
rinse everything off with high pressure sprayed. repeat if nessary.

leave engine running while rinse.

been doing it for years no rags or elbow grease needed.
